How to Build a Sauna
![]() |
There are numerous benefits of using a sauna. The perspiration and elevated body temperature caused by sauna use serve many therapeutic purposes. Sweating works to remove impurities and toxins from the body, improve the appearance of the skin, and even reduce bloating and excess water weight. Saunas are relaxing and a perfect way to soothe overworked muscles and melt away the stress of everyday life. While many gyms, spas and health clubs have saunas, many people choose to build their own home sauna. If you're wondering how to build a sauna, read on.
The first thing you'll need to determine is where you want to build your sauna. Some people decide to build their saunas inside the home, while others prefer the great outdoors. After you've determined where your sauna will be, you'll need to figure out how you'll be heating it. For an indoor sauna, a gas or electric sauna heater is ideal. However for outdoor saunas, a wood burning heater is probably the best bet. While many feel the wood burning heater is the most authentic and ideal choice, it may be a hassle to deal with hauling wood indoors.
The majority of home saunas are crafted from cedar. This is because cedar can hold up under extreme temperatures and excessive moisture. Not only that, cedar smells wonderful and is attractive and eye-catching.
If you're an avid craftsperson, you can construct your home sauna on your own using detailed plans. Check your bookstores do-it-yourself aisle or your home improvement store for great sauna plans. Of course, this isn't the only way to build a sauna. There are sauna kits that contain all the materials you'll need, as well as detailed instructions. Most sauna kits can be constructed in a matter of days and are ideal for most every need. If you don't want to do a lot of construction work, you can purchase a pre-fabricated sauna. This means that the sauna is basically already built and requires minimal assembly, which usually only takes a few hours. Pre-fab saunas can easily be taken down and moved to a new location if necessary, while other types of sauna rooms cannot.
Now that you know how to build a sauna, get to work! You'll love the luxury and comfort of your very own sauna, and wonder how you ever got along without it!
