A Guide to Sauna Benefits
![]() |
The term sauna is used to describe a room that is heated to intense temperatures, normally via steam or infrared heat. For centuries, sauna benefits have been touted by users all over the world. Regular sauna use offers many therapeutic features for both men and women, however make sure to consult your doctor before indulging in a sauna session, especially if you have high blood pressure. Pregnant women are discouraged from using saunas.
Sauna use encourages the production of sweat. Not only does sweat work to cool down the body, it performs a variety of other tasks as well. Sweating helps purify the body and cleanse the skin. Using a sauna for only ten to fifteen minutes can remove toxic waste from the body that would normally take an entire 24 hours to excrete. Perspiration is essential to health, however many people in today's often sedentary world simply don't sweat enough. This is where a sauna comes in handy.
Saunas work to raise the body temperature and improve the circulation. This is not only good for the organs and extremities, but the skin as well. Sauna use helps shrink pores, exfoliate dead skin and encourage a youthful, healthy glow.
Many people take sauna sessions to promote weight loss. While a sauna alone cannot do all the work, you can burn off a few hundred calories during one session. The elevated body temperature and perspiration caused by sauna use speeds the metabolism and also helps eliminate excess water weight and bloating.
And let's not forget the mental benefits of sauna use. Spending time in a sauna can be refreshing for the mind as well as the body. You'll find that even a short sauna session helps relieve stress and tension caused by the rigors of today's fast-paced society.
There are several ways to enjoy all of these sauna benefits. Many gyms and health clubs offer saunas for members to use. If you'd like to enjoy your sauna sessions in private, then why not build a home sauna? There are sauna kits and pre-fabricated saunas that are amazingly simple and cost-efficient to install. Whether you go to the gym to use the sauna or build your own, there's no question that you'll enjoy numerous benefits for both body and mind!
